Bodhisattvas come back “to save all sentient beings”, that’s their vow. I’m amazed how many there are - bodhisattvas, I mean. For surely, the people who work in hospices are bodhisattvas? And those who help rehabilitate prostitutes, offenders, and drug addicts? And those who engage in therapy with abused children. And the men who clean my sewers to keep me safe from disease. And those who care for birds, bats, badgers and more. For animals are sentient beings, too. And bodhisattvas return, forsaking all memory of the Pure Land, take up the sufferings we all bear, and live an ordinary life just so they can rescue us. I love the world that is filled with bodhisattvas, pouring out of the Pure Land in an endless stream.
